Air Show Could Return

Fairhope, Alabama

"FESTIVAL OF FLIGHT"

The Airport Authority Committee is considering staging another air show(in May) at the Sonny Callahan Airport -- if the funding can be arranged for advertising, possibly using BP oil spill money already in the city's possession.

Councilman/Airport Committee member Burrell: "We're looking into that possibility ... waiting to hear from the Governor's Office to find out whether or not we're going to get this money ... ."

"We're envisioning not just an air show ... but an air show/trade show ... possibly inviting Airbus ... suppliers of airbus... attract a lot of vendors to this ... ."

Burrell, an aerospace engineer by trade,  speculated the city may not have the money to fund the festival itself if the BP money fails to come through: "The question is ... does the city have the money to fund it ($60 - 80,000) ...  it becomes a matter ... will we want to spend that ... ."

The Airport Authority decided to stop holding the annual festival in 2009, due to the recession and high costs to the city.

(The city still has over $450,000 in its bank account -- given to city by BP --  that was never used for the 2010 oil spill clean-up.)

Why don't they use some of that money to fix the road around the beachfront? The air show has nothing to do with BP.
