Planning Board Responds to Criticism

Fairhope, Alabama

CONCERNING LAWSUITS

Planning Commission Chairman Lee Turner responded to a citizen's complaints during a recent city council meeting that the Commission's mistakes were responsible for numerous high-cost lawsuits against the city.

Turner: "A citizen lambasted us for the millions of dollars we've wasted in public funds through lawsuits against us ... ."

"Since I've been here (12 years) we've had only four lawsuits ... only one of which we've lost ... cost us less than $20,000 ... ."

Member Gary Moore: "We were lambasted by only one ... ?"

Member Dick Charles: "The same one? I would let it go ... put it to bed."

It was decided not to send a letter to the city council explaining the Commission's response.

(Montrose area resident Paul Ripp has frequently criticized the Planning Commission and has participated personally in at least 2 lawsuits against the city and Commission.)

Well, I for one know of a lawsuit against the city that was won. It wasn't boo coo's of money, but I don't think Turner counted it. Even the small ones add up.
