The reason for these interviews is to delve into the minds of the offenders, and to explore why they killed, and if society could have stopped them. Phil has also been studying youth culture for 25 years, and is an expert in youth behavior, youth culture, and youth entertainment. Phil has been studying juvenile homicide and juvenile mass murder for 20 years, and is the author of "Inside the Mind of a Teen Killer" and "The Encyclopedia of Teen Killers."

VIDEO GAMES TO BLAME?

Chief Petties said recently he hoped as many parents and citizens as possible could attend to help them recognize the signs of trouble before it happens: "Its going to be great ... a great setting ... you're going to see some things ... hear some things ... it makes you aware of people you need to watch ... ."

Petties: "You can tell when you have a problem child ... that's the main thing ... recognizing when you have someone that has a problem.  Its going to take a team effort ... teachers, principals working with us ... ."

Petties and Lt. Larry Sledge warned that playing violent video games -- such as Grand Theft Auto --  should raise red flags for parents.

Sledge recommended the book "Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill: A Call to Action Against TV, Movie, and Video Game Violence" by Dave Grossman,  to parents.

(Petties told the Times that any student experiencing bullying at the high school -- on Facebook or elsewhere -- should contact school resource officer Cpl. Shane Nolte.)

Is some harassed nerd going to steal his dad's guns and show up shooting there someday?
