Personnel Changes At City Hall

Fairhope, Alabama. (fairhopetimes@att.net)

The Times has learned that city Treasurer Nancy Wilson and Public Works heavy equipment operator Greg Burroughs (30+ years) will be retiring this summer.

Also, building inspector Eric Cortinas will be returning this week after recovering from complications after hip-replacement surgery.

Alabama law stipulates the city council is the appointing authority for Treasurer, by majority vote.

Applications for the openings are now being taken by the city's HR department:

Qualifications for Treasurer, Pay Grade 28 include a Masters degree in accounting, current CPA licenses/certifications, and 3 years of government accounting experience.

Qualifications for Equipment Operator IV, Pay Grade 20 include a Class A CDL and equipment operating experience.

CHANGES AT AIRPORT TOO

Airport Authority Chairman Chuck Zunk, members Charlie Bassett and Rod Platt have indicated intentions to resign in September.

Zunk told the Times he thought it was a good time for the founding members to step aside since progress has now been made in all areas of the airport's Master Plan.

Others speculate a differing "vision" for the airport from that of the mayor and council president may be a factor as well.

The mayor nominates new appointments; the city council must vote to approve.

(Local attorney Ray Hix has already been appointed to the A.A. by the city council -- after being nominated by the mayor)
