Feeding geese too much?

Fairhope, Alabama. (fairhopetimes@att.net)

Yesterday, a man was feeding geese on the beach, a major cause of fecal pollution there.

I do not get why there is always controversy over "the geese" Do you people not realize that you live on a bay not the ocean. It is their home or resting spot for migration. It is nature. Bays are not meant to be beachfront property. Fairhope has the duck sanctuary but as it turns out it is just for show. This poor man should not feed the ducks but more than likely does not know any better. Hopefully Fairhope does not kill the geese again as you see it is not a solution . Maybe you should put some of the tax money into raking the postage size beach and rinsing the sidewalk while you are watering flowers, it is NOT THAT COMPLICATED. The geese and nature ie,. the beach and boardwalk is what attracts your tourist and money

clueless city fathers and muthers ... put up signs ,,, please do not feed ... end of story ... duhhhh ....

Look at the big picture and what all of the complaints are ultimately about the fecal matter and the geese. Leave the geese alone and rake the beach and hose the sidewalks like any other place does that has tourist. You have the truck that waters and the tractor to rake the beach like you do when before holiday or someone important coming to town lol

I feel a goose killin' coming on.

Signs, there's already several at both beaches with a list of "do not do's" but there ignored.

It is going to take a Act of Congress to get this timid city council to do anything at all.

The reason they congregate there is because there is free food and no predators. Take away the food and they will leave. Or introduce some predators, i.e someone with a shotgun :)

Putting up signs will do no good. There are signs saying no dogs on the beach but you see how that works. Some people are just stupid.

YOU are guilty of stupid!!!! The bread is not the reason they are here, it is a bay, they are migratory birds, the bay is a resting spot , they are not here year round. Put up with it ,it is nature. As far as your shooting comment ,I am positive that the WMA would love to take that gun and give you a big ole fine as it is against the law to shoot them. Not to mention using a gun in city limits, you sound like a "STUPID REDNECK"

And by the way he treats his fellow man. Wash your dog at home, not the beach where children swim.

you are letting your kid swim in fish poop , and more than likely people pee so shame on you. My dog is the least of your worries........NASTY

TO the person who said that about fellow man practice what YOU preach , You people crack me up about letting your children swim in in my opinion SEWAGE it is nit SALT WATER , it is
brackish water with that said bacteria is not killed like it is in SALT ie OCEAN WATER so take your kid to a swiming pool or the ocean lolololololool
Anonymous said…
take you kid to somewhere more sanitary than a bay to swim lol

my dog does not swim in the bay , it is too dirty for him

the bay is too dirty for my dog

"Or introduce some predators, i.e someone with a shotgun" - I'm sure the parents of the children that play down there would be thrilled with that idea.

"Some people are just stupid." Yes, they are. You might want to look in the mirror.

oh so it is ok for you kid to swim in bird poop and fish poop just not with dogs, I find that funny

all you dog lovers, or maybe its just one fanatic are sick, sick, sick
Anonymous said…
someone really likes to walk their dog on the beach and believes the laws do not ably to him.
Anonymous said…
No its not ok, but just because someone throws a cigarette butt out is no justification for you to throw a bag of trash out. Dog lovers can be the worst people.

I prefer the Geese over the dogs
Anonymous said…
I personally love all animals but you sound like someone who hates the world and that is sick sick sick as you say, and I do believe there is more than one fanatic on here maybe you should move somewhere else . maybe some place with no people or dogs or geese wow you are going to have a hard time with that

What are you talking about??? Are you lost? My experience is that people with dogs are nice it is the people with hate in their soul like you sound to be that people have to worry about

I never see dogs on the beach. I have been there EVERY morning and EVERY night and have not seen one dog on the beach

HOW DID THIS ARTICLE TURN INTO BEING ABOUT DOGS?
Anonymous said…
Excuse me , but FYI, I do not smoke nor do I drink. Cigarette butts are a pet peeve of mine as well but what the heck are you talking about with the trash..... do you drink much?

Uh ... we agree. Some interesting points are being raised though. Try to be nice to each other?

I've seen dogs on the beach many times and the animal officer going after them. Anyone who puts anything on such a high pedestal will either be in denial or lie.

The dog lover on here sounds like the guy who's dog one day bit me while I was walking by. When I kicked his dog off of me the owner attacked me for kicking his dogs mouth off of my leg. I still like dogs, just not some of their owners.

Actually, I have two dogs, many friends, respect my neighbors, fear the Lord and have no intention of moving. But if someone finds my dogs offensive in some way, I’ll listen and respect their point of view.

I don't believe it for a minute, you just started ranting about people who love God's creatures being sick , the article was about geese
Anonymous said…
Nope, I am just a citizen taking up for everyone who is being attacked on here for loving dogs . I also don't believe this story (same guy)

Ummmm ... that is about enough.

Anonymous comments can get out of hand.

There are ordinances regulating dogs, not geese though.
