Tennis Park Renamed For Retiring Councilman

Fairhope, Alabama

'Mike Ford Tennis Center'

The city council passed a resolution adopting the recommendation of the Recreation Board to rename Stimpson Park to the 'Mike Ford Tennis Center at Fairhope Stimpson Park.'

Ford, who was an accomplished tennis player himself in high school and college,  decided not to seek an eighth term as councilman.

He was a senior member of the Recreation Board as well.

The park already has six asphalt courts and six new clay ones are under construction.

While were handing out participation trophies, the CC should also put a plaque by the flower clock in honor of our much esteemed leader, Tim Kant.

Mike Ford served the city of Fairhope long before he ran for city council, and I, for one, am very grateful that I was able to hug his neck and thank him at the last Fairhope football game, the first I had been to since that undefeated season that all fondly remember as one of the few really good things to happen in 1968. My father, Edwin Warley, was very fond of Mike Ford and would have been extremely happy to see this Tenn7is Park expanded and named for him. Congrats, Mike!

Honestly, not enough negative facts can be said about this ancient and ineffective politician. Criticized others about properties rights when he refused to maintain his own property.... Refused to step down when he had family issues and duty that should have been a priority. Perfect example of Fairhope politics. Stay out of my business and respect my property rights! The majority of these so called leaders are well past their prime and have been in office far too long. Now we are considering honoring them for small contributions and lingering well past a time they were mentally competent?
