QUAIL CREEK DRIVE?

The city council reviewed a preliminary design for a new police sub-station on Quail Creek Drive directly across from the municipal golf course clubhouse, on city property.

The 80' X 80' metal and masonry building would include a "multi-purpose" room, public space, a training room, admin. offices, records storage space, and a 675 square foot "muster room."

The plan would include access for police cars to Windmill Drive as well; mayor Sullivan said recently it might also provide "golf cart" access for QC neighborhood residents to get across busy Hwy 181, which is currently impossible (speed limit too high).

The city is currently leasing a precinct building on S. Greeno Road. A 2019 deal with Walmart to donate property behind their store never materialized;  purchasing property in the area would be prohibitively expensive.

will there be sirens going off all the time?

not if people behave.

I see golf carts crossing 181 many times.

carts may cross 181 on side streets with speed limits less than 35 mph .... but are not permitted on the highway itself

golf carts should be banned entirely from all streets!

Agree the golf carts should be banned from City streets. I regularly see young kids driving them, racing down the streets, kids hanging on the back. Nothing to protect them in an accident. City is too big. Crazy stuff.

Yeah, golf carts are the problem...we need more oversized trucks blocking downtown streets

Thank heaven that so many people now drive street legal vehicles rather than larger vehicles. If people really drove them as recklessly as many commenters want us to believe, I think that we would occasionally hear of an accident involving them. Our roads aren't big enough for such massive trucks/SUVs.

I have to admit it, two large pickups parking on each side of Fairhope street reduced the street to one line.

That is allowed on purpose ... to prevent speeding ... no kidding ....

Are you with the Fairhope Police Department? I had no idea that illegal parking was allowed for the sole purpose of speed control!

... not "illegal" .....
