'Single Stream' Recyling Bins Now Available City-wide

WITHIN CITY LIMITS ONLY

Anyone living in the city can now get a blue single-stream recycling receptacle from the city's public works department using the bar code provided above (or by calling them). 

Sorting/separating individual items is no longer required, per directions provided (click).

Those living outside city limits may participate as well by contacting the county's Solid Waste Authority (click).

These bins are huge! Why not same size as garbage?

Ditto…on the can size. It takes three times as long for pickup by truck lift than for worker to lift, dump, and drop a smaller bin. I watched.

but automation is far less costly to keep your taxes/fees lower ...

I'm a little surprised at the voluntary (at least initially) rollout. One of the key advantages is automation but until you get rid of all the old bins then you still need manual labor for pickups. When will it become mandatory to use only the new bins?
