The "priviledged" people in these neighborhoods should be greatful to have a station near them, served by the volunteers who risk their butts to save theirs. When your half-million dollar house catches on fire, you'll be glad they were close enough to save it, as well as your life!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7862220451874774534.post-84997043618741693872009-08-10T11:19:06.615-05:002009-08-10T11:19:06.615-05:00Is there a board of directors for our Fire Dept. Who makes the decisions: where the stations go, who gets paid what, etc.?

I heard they made a mistake building the last station way down at the airport where nobody lives. Instead of the north side.

This is OUR money they're spending. The place for the station is down at the corner on 98. Traffic noise wont be a problem if the building's properly designed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7862220451874774534.post-69487732945962267862009-08-09T21:45:33.592-05:002009-08-09T21:45:33.592-05:00I think the Fire Dept ought to open its books to p...I think the Fire Dept ought to open its books to public scrutiny and be audited every year as well. The dept is a seperate inity of the city but the city budget covers capitol expenses and the payroll in the city budget is to pay the dispatchers at the PD. The Fire Chief is not a paid position but the city does pay him to be a custodian even though he does his volunteer job first. The other 2 do the custodian job and catch the slack.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7862220451874774534.post-58881386084876777032009-08-09T17:57:10.761-05:002009-08-09T17:57:10.761-05:00Wow. I would have thought that they would be THRILLED to get better fire coverage near their homes. If one caught fire today, you can rest assured that they would scream at the top of their lungs tomorrow about the response time.

I live beside Hwy. 98 in Ingleside Highlands. The main fire station is three blocks away, and every ambulance that comes through town passes 100 yards from my house. After 11:00 PM or so, none of them use sirens, as the traffic is virtually non-existent in Fairhope by that time. And when the firetrucks roll late at night, they don't use sirens either. The operators of the emergency vehicles do a great job of respecting the sleeping residents.Marcushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03486615189426835031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7862220451874774534.post-43734804323044654862009-08-09T14:23:31.526-05:002009-08-09T14:23:31.526-05:00The Planning Commission Vice Chairman doesn't ...The Planning Commission Vice Chairman doesn't even know our fire stations aren't manned around the clock?
