In a brief special meeting in Loxley Thursday, the School Board unanimously approved the proposed Baldwin County School System budget for next year.
Fairhope District Member Bob Callahan said a constituent had asked him how many teaching jobs will be funded by the new federal stimulus money for next year ($5 million)--and was told about 25 teaching units and 30 "other classifications" would be.
After being asked by Superintendent Alan Lee if next year's looming proration (reduced $'s from the state) would consume all of the new stimulus dollars, Finance Director Jean McCutchen said their higher-than-expected (reserve) fund balance ($10.3 million) should provide plenty of offset to "absorb" the expected level of proration.
Lee then commended the Board and Staff for ending the fiscal year (Oct. 30) with the higher reserves.
