According to Mayor Kant, a gas station (Murphy Oil) will be locating on highway 181 in front of Wal Mart -- south of the American Family Care medical clinic.

Don't forget the 108 acre "botanical" garden on Dyas's property. Who wants to speculate how long before the city does some kind of developing there in their favor.

Outstanding news!!! The Eastern Shore has the highest gas prices around. Perhaps Walmart can help pull those prices down just a bit.

I Don't think it will be much cheaper. As I recall, Fairhope has a pretty high tax on gasoline. Perhaps The Times could find out and/or comment?

Never heard of any local gasoline taxes other than sales tax. I agree that Murphy Oil will drop the price down to match Daphne and Foley. Happened everywhere else I have been.

fairhope has a high tax on gas and especially on beer and alcohol. it would be great if wal-mart could match daphne and foley but seeing is believing.did wal-mart officially come into fairhope's city limits so they (fairhope) could collect taxes

When Reagan became Pres. he (ironically) raised the federal gas tax. States and counties could tack on tax, and Baldwin did! As I recall it was either two or five cents a gallon. Anyway, it is still in place and "earmarked" for our incredibly wonderful county road system.

Last time I checked, Daphne and Foley were in Baldwin County just like Fairhope. So all the talk about Fairhope having higher taxes on gasoline than any other place in Baldwin County is just BS. Until someone posts some proof we can assume this guy was just blowing smoke.
Expect Murphy to lower the price of fuel in Fairhope to levels similar to Daphne and Foley.

You won't find a line item for the gas tax just like you won't find one for lodging taxes, liquor taxes, etc. All you have to do is compare prices between Fairhope and neighboring cities. If Walmart is annexed in, I don't foresee much of a drop in prices.

The lodging tax is listed on ADOR, otherwise Fairhope has the same taxes on fuel as any other city in Baldwin Co. You are mistaken if you think otherwise.
