Police Get New Vehicles

Fairhope, Alabama

SUVS AND BICYCLES

Lt. Fred King showed off two of six new bicycles the police department bought recently using money donated by local businesses and citizens.

The donations helped refurbish four older bikes as well. Fully equipped, the bikes cost about $1,200 each, according to King.

The department has also received six new Chevy Tahoes to replace some aging Ford Crown Victorias, which are no longer available.

Not sure police on bicycles is cost effective.

There is nothing about law enforcement that is cost effective in the classic sense. You simply have to make value judgments and weigh pros and cons. Bicycles are good when you employ a community policing philosophy.

If that's what the point is and they are used effectively and efficiently, great. I just don't see alot of leadership in this agency.
