2020 Arts n' Crafts Festival Called Off

CORONAVIRUS FEARS

City council members and representatives for the annual Arts n' Crafts Festival (Lang Floyd) and concurrent Eastern Shore Art Center Show (Bryant Whelan) mutually decided to call off the 3-day festival set to begin March 20th; but try to reschedule for later in the year, if logistically possible.

Councilman Brown dissented, wanting to go ahead and let people decide for themselves to attend.

Both sides informally agreed not to hold the other in breach of the festival's contract with the city (to allow use of city streets).

Respective boards of directors of the organizations were to meet later about rescheduling the events; mayor Wilson said the city may be able to help with associated costs (rescheduling).

Over 200K visitors usually attend the yearly event.

Good job council members, Mr Brown I feel the need to remind you as a paid Public official. You are suposed to take public saftey and health into consideration. When you vote for items and leaving it up to others to decide when the fate of the entire State and Fairhope residents rested on your non-decision. If your decision is not to decide then look for employment maybe at the assisted living home. To see who would have been directly affected.

Good job, Mr. Brown.

Unlike others with limited knowledge and expertise, you declined to dictate.

As Benjamin Franklin (far wiser than anonymous Internet scolds) once said:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Good job Mr Brown?, you have no idea how bizare that statement is. With schools, airlines, cruise company's shutting down. Little expertise? If you only knew. The military is in 6 states and counting, that is with virtial no testing. Our Gov. Kay Ivey I guess has no expertise also. This is the reason Mr Brown failed because of out of reality thoughts. Benjamin Franklin loved to converse, I guess that is why you quote him.

No, I'm guessing that Sweet Land quoted Franklin for the point you missed.

I've read your post three times, and its incoherence remains impenetrable--much like the overreactions of the media and our political class, neither of whom deserve our trust.

Caution is warranted, indeed, but so is a sense of proportion. It may seem counterintuitive, but Mr. Brown is the only Council member who did NOT act upon his ignorance. Just a little critical thinking makes that clear.

I felt the CC and Mayor stepped up in this crisis.. it is a no win situation and I hope everyone will support the Festival next time. I am OK with the city helping the Festival. I think the Mayor is thinking that. Council Conyers referred to an MO (?) which the city could extend and the Arts and Craft people seemed to like that.

I see you are the smartest of them all. I have read your post many times and the drawl is great entertainment. To bad the rest of the planet does not think so. But if it makes you feel better keep them comming. Only thing, everything I predicted has occured. While you are still in the past. This is not a nature made bug. The difference between past and present. And I will predict again, this bug will not stop at the work done so far. So bring out some more history, and share an idea to solve the world crisis. Instead of the one in your head.

I applaud the Mayor and the CC for making a well-reasoned decision to protect, as best they are able, our community. I hope that everyone follows the CDC guidance and keeps their kids away from crowds and also from their parents' offices and stores. It would be better to keep the kids in school than to have them roaming into businesses and spreading to older employees. From what we have seen thus far, kids don't exhibit symptoms but can spread the virus. Still, don't push the play groups because we don't want to tempt this thing to begin attacking children, particularly those with underlying health issues such as asthma.

Lots of foolish and gullible Trump supporters boasting that the snowflakes are panicking, and that the Corona virus is a media hoax no worse than the flu. They will soon find out how badly wrong they were and how badly they were lied to by the incompetent pathological orange colored liar we sadly have as president.

Sorry, we forgot to issue a trigger warning, Honey. It wasn't fair of us to expect a gender-studies major to know that people have differing points of view. Go along back to your dorm room now, cuddle up with your stuffed animals, and have a piece of chocolate and good long cry.

I would say this is a tough crowd.

One would have thought that there should have been a force majeure clause in the contract to safeguard both parties from breach of contract during an "act of God".
