Familiar House Demolished For New Development

Fairhope, Alabama

301 Magnolia site.

301 MAGNOLIA AVENUE

The house at 301 Magnolia Avenue was demolished last week to make way for a new mixed-use development on the corner, called 'Vatan.'

The three story project will be a mixture of commercial and residential.

Most of the big live oak trees will be preserved.

(Public records indicate Pitman family owned the property until 2017; RW llc is the owner now.)

I believe that was not the original Pitman house. They rented that house to Mrs, Davenport, believe after war. The late Mr. I W Pitman. did retire in that home. I would imagine Lee Turner or Mr. Pitman’s son would know.

Glad they are saving the big oak trees.

How many oak trees are there? How many will actually be saved ?

Great idea, if you do no what you have till it’s gone “GM”

It is going to be a beautiful addition to Fairhope.

It will be a slow death for those oaks. The drawings that were published show curbing and sidewalk on all sides indicating the roots will be cut. The roots aren't deep. When there is so little root with top-heavy trees they will fall or die.

From what I have seen, this will be a gorgeous project and a vast improvement over the current space. Looking forward to it being completed!

Use to have gorgeous azaleas. The oak trees will die eventually. Progress is not always good. Fairhope is changing. Charm is fading, like the oak trees. The future asphalt. Just the way it is. Difficult to preserve beauty today.

So where do you park at this mixed up,development

On site parking is provided for the five residential units, per city requirements.

So we take a home knock it down and add a 3 story multi use, gorgeous? And still no Dunkin Donuts, that would be gorgeous.

I don’t live in Fairhope. Love it though. Sounds like more transplant views , and not local. Just happy not all going to be asphalt. I agree trees will die when you cut their roots. Common Sense.

Oak trees can withstand anything. Grow out of concrete.

Great grow out of concrete, don’t have to water them. Now that’s historical not histarical.

Great to have people investing in our downtown. This is sure to add value to our already special little town.
