At the last Council Meeting(Sept. 28th) --after approving the dispersement of "community development" funds previously pledged to the Chamber of Commerce ($35K), Ecumenical Minisitries ($10K), the Economic Development Alliance, et. al.-- Finance Committee Chairman Lonnie Mixon cautioned: "We're going to . . . have to . . . start looking (harder) at these donations . . . we just put in a (sales) tax . . . list seems to get longer and longer each year . . . people keep coming with their hands out . . . $10K, $20K and so forth . . . it all adds up . . . want to alert everyone in the city . . . when you do come with hands out . . . better have some good justification . . . (we're) not going to arbitrarily donate funds (anymore) . . . just because we get a letter requesting it . . . "
Councilman Kingrea: "Where does the money come from to pay these."
Mayor Kant: " . . . all these are paid not with tax dollars . . . comes out of revenues from utilities . . . "
$325,000 has been set aside in the 2010 budget for such purposes.
