The Volanta skateboard park needs an additional $36,000 (from the city) for completion (more obstacles), it was revealed recently. Constructed in 2008, the park was caught up in a sometimes bitter political crossfire competing for multi-millions of dollars to construct the new library on one side; and new recreation on the other (new swimming pools, tennis courts, ball fields, recreation center).
Ultimately, a $25,000 donation from an anonymous donor (widely rumored to be a member of the City Council at that time) enabled construction on the skate park to finally begin.
The new funding is to be discussed at Monday's Council work session(FAC).
