At a recent zoning referendum informational meeting Casi Callaway, President of Mobile Baykeeper, said adopting Zoning Protection in Baldwin Planning District 14 (east of Fairhope) would be instrumental in the fight against the pollution of the Fish River/Weeks Bay Watershed (and Mobile Bay). The referendum is to be held on April 13th. Callaway: "We can't help the community without zoning ... ADEM cannot, not issue permits..."
The possible location of Fairhope's new sewage treatment facility in the District--and how county zoning may or may not apply to it was also discussed.
A new referendum may be held as frequently every year, until it eventually passes.
