The FY 2012 Budget Committee will present the city's proposed 2012 budget to the city council for its approval. The committee, headed by Stan Grubin, has been working on it since January.

It includes enough funding for a 2% raise,  sewer plant upgrades ($4 million), painting 2 water towers, burying electric wires downtown, replacing iron gas piping, improvements to the running track at Fairhope High School, and other utility upgrades.

Further additions to the general and utility reserve (emergency) funds are also proposed.

Mayor Kant said he expected incoming revenue and the city's growth rate to remain flat next year, with some reduction in building related revenues.

CITY COUNCIL MUST DECIDE

The city council can approve the proposal or make changes when it takes up the matter at Monday's council meeting.

Council members and the Mayor participated in some or all of the committee's meetings.

The next fiscal year begins Oct. 1st.

What is going to happen if there is another recession as is being prdicted? Higher utility rates for us all?

It's possible...they may even rise to the same levels as other utility companies.

Yes...if other people are getting screwed over with utility rates, we might as well join them. Cut back...conserve...all that crap...doesn't matter...the monthly bill keeps getting bigger.

they need to be shrinking government not makig it bigger.

We need to cut employee numbers way back. We only need about 100 total employees to run this small town. Utility prices need to come down also. A typical utility bill should be no more the $100. This is ridiculous!!!

Son off to college, no more 30 min showers, computer running 24/7, less laundry, etc. Total useage way down, but bill still keeps getting higher than before.
