Fairhope, Alabama
FORMS CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE
Mayor Kant told a Times reporter recently he will be seeking re-elction this August -- and has already formed a campaign committee: Thomas Faust is Chairman, Philip Cusa is Treasurer, and Jerry Keehn is a committee member.
Campaign documents show Kant spent $5,000 to retain the services of the Spanish Fort "political strategy and consulting firm" of Elliot, Haygood and Stacey LLC.
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM FUNDRAISERS
Campaign records show Kant received donations of over $39,000 last year -- and spent over $27,000: largely to pay off prior campaign debts.
Significant contributions were made by:
1. One of the city's (private) attorneys, Caine O'rear, and his law firm's (Hand Arendall) political action committee, West Pac. $2,750 in total.
2. Engineering firm and frequent city contractor Volkert Inc; and its political action committee DVA/HC, $1,500 total. Volkert President and CMO Perry Hand gave an additional $500.
3. A.I. Corte Jr., owner of Plantation Point. shopping center, $500.
4. Spanish fort resident Barry Boothe, the organizer of the WWII Veteran's Honor Flght, gave $500.
5. Fairhope Funeral Home owner Gary Wolfe, gave $500. Wolfe objected when no-cost funeral escorts were discontinued by the Fairhope P.D. about two years ago.
6. Local developer and Planning and Zoning Commission member George Roberbs gave $300.
7. Sonny Callahan and Associates, a political lobbying firm, gave $500.
8. Mobile realtor/developer Clifton Inge gave $1,000.
