Fairhope, Alabama
FOR MARCH 2012
Police Chief Bill Press said that officer Becky Maclean has been selected by her supervisors as Police Officer of the Month for March 2012.
Press said Maclean and other officers were dispatched in early morning hours to an apartment where a woman had been stabbed by her boyfriend; and the suspect barricaded himself inside (with 3 guns) threatening to shoot officers.
Maclean, the department's hostage negotiator, was able to build a rapport with the suspect and, after a two hour negotiation, convinced him to give up and come out of the apartment -- keeping the SWAT team from having to force their way in.
Press; "You are a credit to the department and the entire law enforcement community."
Maclean thanked the department for sending her to hostage negotiation training.
Maclean: "... this was my third successful negotiation ... appreciate the support of the other officers there ... definitely a joint effort."
