Fairhope, Alabama
OFFICER RONNIE MARSHALL (JAN. 2012)
Chief Press said Officer Marshall responded to calls of vehicles broken into and one vehicle theft -- and then pursued the suspect on foot. Marshall subsequently located the suspect in a stolen car and found drug paraphernalia as well as 2 stolen guns in the vehicle.
Press called it "top notch police" work.
Marshall said he was just doing his job and plans to "just keep riding and keep looking."
OFFICER RON WELLS (FEB 2012)
Chief Press said Officer Wells pulled over a speeding car driving on the wrong side of the road -- and subsequently discovered a fully loaded AK 47 in the vehicle. After arresting the suspect for DUI, Wells discovered the suspect had an extensive criminal history and was in violation of federal fire arm laws.
Press said Well's diligence and attention to duty took a dangerous suspect who had "mental problems" off the street as well as a fully loaded firearm that could have been used to commit serious crimes.
Wells: "It was just part of the job ... doing what i was hired on to do."
(Publisher's Note: The Officer of the Month selections for Jan. and Feb. were delayed due to scheduling conflicts)
