At the last council meeting, after expressing support for locating a Tattoo/Art Studio on Magnolia Ave., Lloyd Lane resident Calvin Hunt berated the mayor and city council for not doing enough for the "black community" in his Twin Beech neighborhood.

Hunt is a proponent of the Clean Sweep Campaign founded by Montrose resident Paul Ripp -- to replace all incumbents in the upcoming municipal election.

Hunt was escorted from the podium by Police Chief Press after he became belligerent during his comments. By ordinance, citizens must sign up for public-participation comments prior to meetings -- and are required to stick to the subject matter they indicated at that time.

(Publisher's Note: According to the website Mugshots.com, Hunt was arrested in March of 2011 for possession of drug paraphernalia (click).)

POLITICAL MEETING PLANNED

The Point Clear-Fairhope Action Committee has announced it will host a political forum for the candidates in the area on Aug 7th -- at the Faith Temple, 409 Ingleside St., 7PM. The Action Committee has cited its accomplishments in the area as getting streets paved, drainage improvements and sidewalks on Young St. and Twin Beech Rd: completed by the county since the area lies mostly outside of city limits.

According to past media reports and sources at city hall, the city contributes significantly to the operation of the Rotary Youth Club on Young St; and pays the salary of the club's Operations Manager Charles Durgin.

In 2009, Hunt unsuccessfully lobbied the council to re-name the park near the club to honor his relative, Chester Hunt Sr. a long-time employee of the Grand Hotel (click).
