CONTRACTOR PULLED OUT
City Adminstraor Greg Mims said that the contractor previously awarded (click) the bid for paving some city streets had withdrawn his bid. Because it was the only bid received -- and for almost twice the usual "market value" for the service -- Mayor Kant had been authorized by the council to try and negotiate a better price.
Mims; "We'll go back to square one ... see what our options may be."
Council President Mixon: "We may have to think about holding off on that resurfacing ... with funding as it is."
Mixon told the Times later that since electric and water revenues are down, funding for the projects would have to be re-considered by the Financial Advisory Committee.
The streets proposed to be paved were:
