Fairhope, Alabama
COST OF $487,695
The city council approved staff's recommendation to choose Classic Protective Coatings, Inc. of Menomonie WI. -- to paint the city's 1 million gallon water tank on Nichols Ave. According to bid specifications, the new white paint should last 25 to 30 years.
Special measures required for removing layers of old lead paint has been cited as a reason for the high cost for the project. The tank was last painted in the mid-1990s.
It was decided not to proceed now with the painting of a 2 million gallon second tank (behind the elementary school) at this time (cost about $600,000).
The project is to be funded from water operating revenues and reserves.
Fairhope's municipally-operated water system has five water tank towers. A sixth has been contemplated for the north side of town.
