Fairhope, Alabama
The new Fairhope city council is poised to eliminate the positions of City Administrator and Utility Superintendent at its first meeting on Nov. 5th: the matter was discussed at an organizational meeting last week. Currently, the Administrator is second in command to the Mayor.
The new council will also appoint Mayor Kant to serve as acting Superintendent of Utilities (salary undisclosed). The city currently has no one officially appointed to that office.
When asked by the Times if the current City Administrator (Greg Mims) would be absorbed somewhere else in the city workforce, Kant said there was currently no room anywhere; but a new position could be created by the council.
Mims has been noticeably absent form recent municipal meetings and when asked by the Times the Mayor would only say he "wasn't here." (Unconfirmed reports say he has been on administrative leave.)
Various appointments to city committees are also scheduled for the Nov. 5th meeting as well as electing a Council President. (According to informed sources, Jack Burrell is the favorite.)
