NO WORD FROM WARNER
According to city clerk Lisa Hanks, mayoral candidate Chris Warner has not yet put up the required bond to begin the recount process. On Sept. 18th. Warner, who finished third, requested the recount (click) for various reasons -- and the process had begun -- but after Hanks informed him by e-mail of the estimated costs involved ($4,100) -- she has to-date received no reply.
Alabama election law requires the party requesting the recount to fund it, via a bond or some other up-front security.
In other media reports, Warner said he was not willing to pay that much -- and was consulting an election-law attorney.
Hanks told the Times she was aware of no time limits for Warner to post the security money.
