Fairhope, Alabama
REPAIRS TO BE COMPLETED BY FRIDAY
Storm water erosion along the U.S 98 right of way at South Drive caused a break in a water main serving the Rock Creek neighborhood last Sunday; other utilities were exposed as well (including a sewage line) but not damaged.
Water was restored after several hours, but at lower pressure. Residents are being asked to conserve until fully repaired (no lawn watering).
City public works and utility personnel ... as well as state ADOT and Riviera Utilities are working to repair the damage and restore full water pressure by Friday; a new culvert is to be installed under South Drive.
For a while last Sunday, the Publix grocery store was without water -- until a by-pass was improvised using fire plugs on Parker Road.
City's statement:
On Tuesday, June 18, heavy rains caused an already eroding issue on U.S. 98, just north of South Drive, to expose and caused a separation of the water main serving the water pressure boosting system that serves Rock Creek. Due to this damage, the restoration of the water main is delayed while the storm drain on South Drive is repaired and relocated.
