Highway 181 Corridor

A MOP (multiple occupancy project) plan for an Aldi grocery store to be located on 7 unzoned acres at the Hwy 181/Fairhope Avenue intersection is on the agenda for the October 4th planning commission meeting.

Although the project is just outside city limits, city subdivision regulations still apply in the ETJ (extra territorial jurisdiction).

Turning lanes are to be installed on both 181 and Fairhope Ave.; the 22K square foot store is expected to be completed in late 2022, according to documents.

This is an excellent addition to our shopping choices, but let the caterwauling begin...

The 7 acres needs to be in the city limits before Fairhope provides services or road improvements

Yet another grocery store on that future crowded area does not seem logical. Why couldn't they utilize a vacant building on Greeno?
Such a waste.

Which building? How does it suit Aldi's very specific floor plan and operations? And why does someone with such a tremendous ability to manage the affairs of a multinational corporation offer genius advice for free when it's obviously worth millions?

I cant tell you how very long I've been waiting for this wonderful store to come onto our community. It will be a huge asset to people who appreciate quality food and other items at fare pricing.
