Fairhope Gets New Cable TV Service

A new "cable" type television service, ATT U-verse,  is now available in parts of Fairhope using existing broadband phone lines (according to company mail-outs)--that will compete with existing Mediacom.

In 2004-05, the city debated whether to start a municipal cable service itself, in hopes of it generating much needed new revenue for city coffers; but decide by a narrow 3-2 council vote it was too risky.  The model system being cited at the time, Newnan Ga., ultimately failed in the 2007-08  housing market bust.
