Correction: Fire Rating Remains The Same

Fairhope, Alabama

BUILDING ISO IMPROVED INSTEAD

The previous post that the city's fire department ISO rating had improved was in error.

City Planner Johnathan Smith notified the Times that the Building Department's ISO had improved, not the Fire Department's.

We apologize for the confusion.

Smith: "I read your recent article regarding the City's ISO rating.  A couple of corrections need to be made. I said that ourBuilding Department ISO rating has improved from a 6 to a 5 and we are hoping we can get that number down to a 4 in the near future."

ISO Building Code Ratings: ISO collects information on the building codes in effect in a particular community, as well as how the community enforces its building codes. We then analyze the data using our Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS®) and assign a grade from 1 to 10. Grade 1 represents exemplary commitment to building-code enforcement; Grade 10 indicates no recognizable enforcement. Insurers can use the gradings to grant premium credits for buildings constructed under strictly enforced codes.
