Big 'Black Friday' Shopping Turnout Expected

Fairhope, Alabama

While a famous homeless cat rested-up nearby, downtown streets were deserted today; but big crowds are expected tomorrow for traditional 'Black Friday' shopping as well as 'Super Saturday': Near record-setting sales have already been reported by some downtown bars, restaurants and shops -- and that could continue if the weather remains good.

NOISE ORDINANCE TO BE RELAXED?

Also, the city council has begun discussing councilman Mueller's proposal to relax the night-time noise limit (after 10PM) in the downtown area, at least: He told the Times no one specifically has been complaining it is too low -- just thought it was a good thing to do.
'Jacque'

Another council-source advised that a close relative of Mueller's works for a downtown night spot that was caught-up about 6 years ago in a noise dispute with some condo owners across Bancroft Street (McSharry's Irish Pub).

The Times has not-yet been able to confirm that, though.

That noise ordinance has been violated every first Friday since it was implemented. And now with the outdoor performance venue at Faulkner they will continue to do so.

That was a targeted action to punish one individual. She should have sued the city.

what the heck is anyone going to buy at those junky over priced stores? (my opinion) I have been shopping in Fairhope and all that I saw was junk stores (antiques) and over priced stuff to attract tourist. You hardly ever see anyone walking with bags. I stopped in and got coffee at the green beans or whatever and was charged 5.00 ? for a coffee drink from a machine . I think they have the same one at the gas station. The loft is the best but it is not downtown. Great coffee though

Maybe they ought to think about enforcing the noise laws better then to keep the drunken mobs of tourists away?

I will say again why do they plant poinsettias every year they have to replant because the frost gets them waste of money the plant does not belong outdoors in our climate it happens year after year

People who have an opinion on various aspects of life around here do have a life. Call it what you want or do you have an opinion worth mentioning?

Oh boo hoo you just do not like the truth to be told

As I have said many times,
1. If Fairhope is such a terrible place why do you live here?
2. If you all that complain continuous and have all the answers, Why don't you run for office?

Hmm just wondering. :)

I live here near downtown because I moved here decades ago before all the zoning changes, bars, parades, tourists and noise. I’d gladly move but no one will buy my house because they don’t want it either. Also, I moved here long before there was so many rude people.

Great comment I agree!!!

Me too, except my husband has lived here all his life, I just came along 41 years ago. Things sure have changed. Love living close to town, but all the hoopla has sure changed things. Guess that's progress. We have to grow with the times.

Fairhope had different ways it could have grown. The leadership and greed took it down this path. Progress, I think not. Yes, the times they are a changing.

it seems to me that some of the shops downtown are write offs , I can not see how they make money. Pure junk (my opinion)

Don't see where anyone said you can't comment (complain what it looks like). But true, you all seem to comment but never have any solutions. Yes I am sure there has been big change in the last 40 years, but have you looked around lately, the world has real problems. People are moving to our area where most things are good, and no major problems. The city now is way less corrupt then it use to be, we just did not know it was before. Now everyone knows most everything that goes on.

People are moving out because of insurance rates and high taxes! over priced homes and the such. Yes the world has problems but the subject at hand is Fairhope. You just keep your blinders on.

I thought the Single Tax thing was against speculation and wanted everyone to be able to afford to live here.

what happened? anybody Know?

in my experience the single tax prevents people from moving here . It is very outdated.
