Fairhope, Alabama

District one State School Board representative Matthew Brown visited the city council recently; he said he was "making the rounds" to all of the towns in his seven-county district  and "wanted to be the most accessible representative ever."

He invited council members to call him if they ever had concerns about schools.

Council President Burrell said it was their chance to "beat up on him" with questions -- but no one had any.

Brown was appointed to the position by the governor about a year ago and is seeking re-election in 2016: He has several opponents.

Brown lives in east Fairhope with his wife and two children and works for the county highway department.
