Citing the City's current budgetary concerns, at its last meeting the City Council chose not to purchase (the lease of) some Single Tax Corp. land at the NE corner of Fairhope Ave. and Section St. (clock)-- site of the former Gaston (Ford) Motor Company(see library photo). After some debate about the recent history of the property and possible buried "tanks" (although he was not present, the Mayor had apparently previously concluded there were none--according to some present)-- Councilman Kingrea surmised : "The fact of the matter is, we just can't afford it."
