Referring to Fairhope's Police Jurisdiction as unusually large for a City this size (88 square miles) , Police Chief Sanders is asking City Officials for permission to apply for a grant for 5 new officers under the just re-funded Federal COPS Program. Under terms of the Program, the Federal government would pay the Officers' salaries for 3 years and the City for another subsequent year-- according to Sanders. Councilman Mixon concurred: "I agree we need more police officers."
In the past, some other City Officials have also frequently called our Police Dept. "over-extended"
April 14th is the deadline for applying for the COPS Program.
