New Recreation Center Proposals

Two proposals for the future of the new $2.5 million Recreation Center in Volanta Park will be submitted at tomorrow's Recreation Committee Meeting (Mar. 11th, 5:10PM at Rec Center) according to the Mayor: 1. A proposal to partner with Thomas Hospital. 2. An alternative proposal by Rec. Director Boyette It has already been determined the City cannot currently afford to operate the Center alone--all things being equal.

why dont they just charge admission to pay for the thing instead.

They ought to go ahead and do the inevitable sales tax on tourists and out-of-towners. This trying to run a city on the cheap wont work. square peg, round hole

That's right, so what if we have a sales tax like every other city in the world? Wont make any difference, anyway. Its about Time for us to start acting responsibly and pay our bills rather than keep acting like spoiled children in a candy store and going deeper in debt

The Mayor told us we were in great financial shape and this thing would be fully open by January-- during his election campaign. Didn't work out that way.
