City Computer System Deemed Obsolete by Citizen Committee

An interim report by the Financial Strategic Planning Steering Committee (Information Technology Group) has concluded the City's 1980s vintage AS 400 computer server and software are causing major difficulties for all City Departments. Its "lack of user friendliness" and "components that don't work together" were given as specific examples. The cost estimate to replace the system was estimated to be from $1 to 2 million, but by doing so city employees would become more efficient; and "less people could do more jobs"-- saving the city money in the long run, the Committee tentatively concluded.
