The City Council recently authorized Mayor Kant to apply for funds still available from the Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (made available after Hurricane Gustav and Tropical storms Fay)-- to be used for stabilizing 4 gullies in Fairhope. Public Works Director Fidler commented the erosion became worse after the recent heavy rains-- and the work had to be completed by July 20th to be eligible for the Federal funds.
Cost to the City was to be $5,500 and would come out of "general fund reserves" according to Treasurer Nancy Wilson.
The brochure pictured-- funded by The Single Tax Corp.-- describing the history/importance of our gullies, is available at City Hall.
