The City Council declared another state of emergency Monday evening to expedite the bidding process for repairs to a pump at water well #1-- just off Fairhope Ave. behind the Middle School. According to Water Superintendent Dan McCrory--the aging, 200ft deep pump failed Monday morning and is the primary water supplier to Thomas Hospital. Repair costs were estimated to be about $60,000; and McCrory estimated that over 2.6 billion gallons had been pumped before its failure.
A similar emergency was declared earlier in the Spring when an older electric transformer on Morphy Ave. was destroyed by fire. [That transformer has yet to be replaced]
