The Fairhope Times has learned the controversial City Administrator position is now open-- and being advertised "in house" (open to current city employees only) with a salary range of $89,500 to $110,000. A BA degree in business or public administration with 5yrs experience are among qualifications listed on the announcement.
The announcement is dated July 8, 2009-- and the Mayor's "signature" appears as an "authorization by e-mail" instead--on Jun 11th.
The matter became contentious after the city council passed a resolution at its Jun. 8th meeting to advertise the position, in-house, immediately; but the Mayor--at that time--refused to do so saying he didn't need the help (although he had supported the idea at a May Council meeting).
