After hearing a presentation by Financial Advisory Committee Chairman Chuck Zunk, the Council approved the budget his Committtee's been working on for about 2 months-- without modifications by a 4-1 vote. Councilman Mike Ford voted no-- primarily because the Mayor's proposed across-the-board 3% employee COLA (cost of living adjustment) --or at least a 2% one-- were not included.
Council President Quinn said she did favor some limited merit raises to "give people incentive to . . . do . . . good work;" and thought that may still be possible at some point down the road.
The overhead projector Zunk was attempting to use proved to be inoperable--as it has been intermittently for several months now.
Publisher's Note: According to the Federal Government, the cost of living actually declined slightly this past year: hence no Social Security increases for Seniors(COLA).
