More "Publix" Trees to be Removed?

In a letter dated Sept. 21, 2009 to the Mayor, the Fairhope Tree Committee worries that more trees/vegetation may soon be removed from "Corridor 98"--by the developers/owners of the Fly Creek PUD (aka "Publix")--in violation of an agreement they had signed with the Committee/City Horticulturalist back in 2008. Since that time the project was subdivided, adding 2 new out-parcels along the highway frontage; and there are rumors of impending development. At last Monday's Council Meeting, Tree Committee Member/Councilman Kingrea asked City Administrator Mims to help expedite a reply to the letter (the Mayor was absent from the meeting).

face it. those trees are goners. some secret deal's already been done by the political bosses way above the horticulturalist's pay grade. little things like city laws have never stopped them before.

why do we have a p&z commission, why do we have committees that were put in place in order to protect and preserve our community? anything anyone does to attempt to keep our area intact, to protect and preserve the integrity of the environment or anything else unique to Fairhope is overridden by Kant, et al, on a whim and in favor of cronyism. Whatever is good for Kant and his buds is what happens.

Wished they would remove some downtown. They (the roots) are ruining the floors in some downtown business. Cost plenty of $$$$ for property owner as the city won't do anything about it. The trees were donated, so their insurance won't cover. Should the property owners add to the already HIGH legal fees of the city?
