City Attorney: Horticulturist Has "Significant" Tree Authority

According to City Attorney Tut Wynne, the Tree Protection Ordinance gives the City's Horticulturist authority over all "significant" (at least 20" trunk diameter) trees in the city limits (on public or private property), with the notable exception of all single family residential property. The owner of a store downtown (Section Street) was recently denied permission to cut the branches of a live oak tree in the airspace over her property.
