City Council Meets Early; State of Emergency Declared

Because of approaching tropical storm Ida, the City Council held today's (Nov. 9th) regularly scheduled (6Pm) meeting at 12 noon today instead. City Attorney Wynne (after consulting with the Alabama League of Cities): ". . . Council should recognize a state of emergency (declared last night by the County) . . . all criteria met (to move up meeting time) . . . to avoid injury to persons . . . damage to property . . . emergency circumstances . . . require immediate action . . . storm intensifying as it gets closer." The Council then unanimously passed a resolution declaring the state of emergency. [Note: The scheduled 5Pm work session (education/possible city school system) will be held before the Nov. 23rd meeting instead]
