Policemen Get Commendations

Officer of the Month. October 2009: Corporal Wendell Thomas, participated in the helicopter rescue of 2 missing persons reported lost in a swampy area in near freezing temperatures. The aerial search located the vehicle still occupied by one individual, then Thomas found the second by searching on-foot. One of the grateful women gave a cash donation to the FPD in gratitude. November 2009: Sgt. Mike Crittenden, managed a serious collision during the annual Angel Ride motorcycle caravan for charity; and re-started the ride to its eventual successful conclusion. Crittenden also helped bring the Ravenite pub incident to a satisfactory conclusion. December 2009: Officer John Morgan, the first to be assigned to the new Crime Suppression Team which is spearheading all pro-active issues in Fairhope (narcotics, search/felony warrants, clusters of burglaries/thefts, etc.). Morgan has a history of having the highest productivity in the Department: arrests, citations, reports, most calls/backups and was instrumental in getting the Suppression Team up and running (now 2 person). January 2010: Lt. Joe Petties was given a commendation for service above and beyond the call of duty: "like a fireman, jumps in no matter what time of day . . . does it all on his own time . . . never complains at all . . . has heart and soul of a police officer . . . dedicated to the citizens of Fairhope." Pettties is soon to be promoted to Captain by the City Council (over the Mayor's objections), it was announced.
