After a lengthy debate about the town's paper copying/scanning/faxing needs--and the virtues of leasing vs. purchasing ($4,995 for b&w;$7,344 for color)-- the Silverhill Town Council voted to compromise: lease to own the machine for $190.50/month (for 39 months including maintenance costs) contingent upon final contract review/acceptance by the Mayor/City Clerk.
Councilman Lyles: "We'd come out better purchasing it . . . with service contract."
Police Chief: "(Currently) Our scanner isn't working . . . have no FAX machine . . . we just need something that works . . . don't need all the bells and whistles."
Councilman Stephens: "We (city) make 1600 copies/month . . . now spending $207/mo on (ink) cartridges."
Mayor Wilson: "Can't put that much in the budget (to purchase) . . . don't see where to get that much money."
Councilman Jones: " . . . motion to approve lease to purchase . . . pending a satisfactory contract."
The motion passed unanimously.
