Daphne's curbside recycling service could end on March 27th, unless the county's new "Team Green" program is up and running by then-- or an arrangement (sorting) can be made with the city's current recycler in Loxley (unless the City Council chooses to continue funding the city's current service).
Mayor Small: "We're out of funds (for it) at the end of March . . . not enough (in the budget) for the full year . . . already cut staff way down."
Council President Palumbo: "I'm . . . not in favor of discontinuing recycling . . . under any circumstances."
A citizen spoke in favor of ending the city's recycling program: " (it) consumes hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years . . . diverted money from other good uses . . . used up resources . . . (time to) come off emotional approach . . . use business sense (for a change) . . . shut it down."
[The Team Green concept envisions putting all recyclables together in a separate plastic bag in the garbage can-- to be sorted at the new Magnolia Springs facility, according to Mayor Small]
[Publisher's Note: When first announced early last year, Team Green spokesmen indicated the service would not be available for about 2yrs]
