The Police Department-- and it's subdivisions Fire, Corrections, Animal Control--is planning an open house on April 24th from 10AM-2PM at its headquarters downtown on Section St.
Chief Press: " I want the citizens of Fairhope to see where their dollars and cents are actually going. We're going to put just about everything we have on display . . . including all the military (surplus) gear we get free of charge. Over $1 million worth came to the city this year because of our investigators going to the military to get items . . . everything from trucks, boats . . . could even get an airplane if I had wanted it."
The city's new horseback "mounted patrol" --made up of 20 volunteers designed to conduct search and rescue, evidence collection, special events, etc.--will be introduced, police canine units will be giving demonstrations of "bite work," and the SWAT team will be conducting demonstrations as well.
Other planned events:
1. Fire Dept. equipment display
2. Corrections Center open for public "walk throughs"
3. Polygraph examination demonstrations
4. F.A.T.S. (firearm training simulation) demos/public participation (video game format shoot/don't shoot training device)
5. Information booths concerning the new bicycle registration program (brochures) and pet adoptions (The Haven)
