National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

The U.S. Congress has designated April as National Distracted Driver Awareness Month. A law to prevent texting while driving--supported by the Fairhope P.D.-- has stalled in the Alabama legislature.
Recently Fairhope Police Chief Press announced his officers are now using handless phone devices (bluetooth) in their patrol cars. The very visible use of handheld phones while driving by police officers had been a concern for many citizens.
Other city personnel were prohibited from using phones while driving city vehicles early last year.
Studies have shown 60% of traffic accidents have distracted driving as a factor.
