The 2011 finances of the new Volanta Recreation Center were discussed at the last Budget Committee meeting; and whether the center should be expected to break even like the golf course. Membership fee increases are being proposed for both facilities ($3/mo. for the Rec. Center).
Total Recreation Department income next year is projected to be $442,000 and expenses $1,153,000. [Income for just the Volanta Recreation Center is $285,000 vs $356,00 for expenses, plus debt service ($176K), utility costs ($60K), etc.]
Golf Department revenue is projected to be $1,041,000 vs. $1,144,000 for expenses. The course was extensively renovated last year.
It was brought out that many school age children use certain recreational facilities free of charge (gymnasiums, ball fields, tennis courts, etc).
