Proposed Garbage Pick-up Changes Could Save $1 million

The proposal submitted by the Budget Committee to privative garbage/recycling services could save the city almost a million dollars next year: the amount needed to purchase much-needed new equipment (3 new trucks, et al).
The bids from the various private sanitation companies are still being evaluated.
The estimated cost for daily operations will apparently be "a wash": about the same as now.
Current sanitation employees are to be hired by the new firm or absorbed elsewhere in the city workforce (opening for construction equipment operator, etc.).
If approved by the City Council, the new service could start as early as Nov 1st.
Such Committees only make recommendations, the Council has the final authority.
